![]() Skype interviews pose special challenges. Skype interviews permit graduate programs to interview students cheaply and efficiently – and perhaps even squeeze even more applicant interviews in than they would in real life. Fortunately, many graduate programs are moving towards conducting interviews by video conferencing via platforms like Skype. Because of this, grad school interviews are often described as “optional.” However, optional or not, it’s in your best interest to make the trip and interview in person. ![]() Many, if not most, graduate programs expect applicants to pay their own travel expenses. Interviews, however, are expensive and time-consuming, especially if you are applying to graduate programs that are far from home. Methods: Interview data gathered by a qualitative research study exploring the views of people with IBS about hypnotherapy for their condition were used. Interviews offer an important opportunity let faculty and members of the admissions committee get to know you, beyond your application materials. Graduate school admissions interviews are common in many fields. A classic video conferencing software is Skype. Especially if you want to hold meetings with a manageable number of participants (two to ten people), it’s worth taking a look at what is available. Webex Rooms can share audio, video, and the content on your screen. Classes can be taught remotely, meetings can be held across the world, and interviews can be conducted securely. ![]() For many graduate programs submitting your application is just the first step in seeking admission.
